A Feminist History of Portrait Miniatures

Power is often understood as something imposed from above.
This exhibition explores it instead as something that moves in different directions.

A feminist approach allows us to question the assumption that structures of artistic recognition are neutral, focusing not simply on inclusion, but on how representation became a space through which women - as artists, patrons or sitters - navigated and at times subtly defied the systems that sought to define their roles.
